What it is

Each school year the Community of Madrid runs an admission process for the first cycle of pre-primary education (ages 0–3) in its nursery schools and casas de niños, in authorised public schools and in private centres with an agreement. It does not include Madrid City Council nursery schools or private centres without an agreement. Parents or guardians of children starting for the first time (for 2026-2027, born in 2024, 2025 or 2026, including those due to be born before 1 January 2027) and of those wishing to change centre must apply. The application is filed through the secretaría virtual, free of charge, and must be signed by both parents unless an exception applies. For 2026-2027 the period ran from 11 to 25 March 2026; from 1 July there is an extraordinary process, applying for a place directly at the centre.
