What it is

Everyone living in Spain must register on the padrón of the municipality where they usually live. In València you register when arriving from another municipality or from abroad, and file a change of address if you move within the city; the applicant must be an adult or emancipated minor (minors follow their parents). You provide: valid identity documents for everyone (non-EU nationals, residence card or passport; under-14s, family book or birth certificate) and proof of residence in the home showing its cadastral reference: if you own it and appear as the IBI holder, nothing else is needed; if rented, a valid contract of more than six months signed by all parties, with the last rent receipt paid in the last two months. If the home belongs to someone else, their authorisation is needed. Documents are accepted in Spanish or Valencian; others need a sworn translation, and foreign public documents must be legalised or apostilled. You can apply online with a digital signature or at the padrón offices with an appointment (city website or phone 010). The maximum processing time is 3 months.
