What it is

The Registro de Uniones de Hecho of the Community of Madrid registers couples who live together freely, publicly and openly in an affective relationship. Both must be of age or emancipated minors, single, widowed, divorced or legally separated, not related up to the third degree, not be in another registered partnership and have been registered on the padrón at the same address for the twelve months before the application, living in the Community of Madrid. First you request an appointment (online or at a registry office) with the documents: identification, padrón certificate (volantes are not accepted) and civil status certificate; foreign documents must be legalised or apostilled and translated by a sworn translator, and certificates are valid for three months. If everything is complete, the Registry sends the appointment by SMS; on that day both partners must attend together at calle Los Madrazo, 34 (Madrid) with proof of payment of the registration fee (82.12 € according to the page, form 030). The decision is notified within 15 working days. The registration is administrative and does not change civil status.

When

When you have lived together stably for at least twelve months and been registered at the same address in the Comunidad de Madrid. Both must be adults (or emancipated minors), single, widowed, divorced or judicially separated, and not related up to the third degree.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Request an appointment with your documents

    You request the appointment online or by submitting the form, with the documents. If complete, you get the appointment by SMS and email; the date cannot be changed. You get an answer within a month.

  2. Step 2: Pay the fee before the appointment

    It is recommended to pay 2 to 7 days before the date: online (card, Bizum or direct debit) or at a bank.

  3. Step 3: Both go together to sign

    On the day you both appear in person together at the Registry (Calle Los Madrazo, 34) with the fee receipt, your ID and the originals. Within 15 working days you are notified of the decision, which makes the partnership effective.

What about foreign documents?
