What it is
In Catalonia the police force is the Mossos d'Esquadra. A report for lost items or for stolen documents or items can be filed online only if the victim cannot give any information about the perpetrators (did not see them and cannot identify them) and suffered no physical violence. Afterwards you must go to the police station chosen in the form to validate and sign the report: for it to have legal effect, it must be signed within 72 hours; you can book an appointment. You can also report directly at a Mossos d'Esquadra station, with or without an appointment. It is free. You are advised to bring an identity document of the person reporting (DNI, NIE, passport or driving licence, or another one different from the lost or stolen one) and invoices or photos of the items; for thefts, also the serial numbers or the phone's IMEI.

Steps
Step 1: Fill in the report online
Go to the official website: Theft report (Tràmits Gencat)You fill in the form on Tràmits Gencat (there is one for theft and one for loss) and choose the station where the report will be.

Step 2: Sign at the station within 72 hours
You go to that station to validate and sign the report; for it to have legal effect, within the following 72 hours. You can book an appointment to sign it.
