What it is
The travel document (旅行证) can be requested, for example, for minor children born abroad or to mixed-nationality couples. Chinese citizens living in Spain (except Catalonia) and Andorra apply through the "中国领事" (China Consular) app; the embassy assesses each case, and if the minor does not have Chinese nationality, the reply can be used to apply for a visa. It can be renewed when it has less than 6 months of validity left, and a duplicate can be requested if it is lost, stolen or damaged. For those who must return to China urgently for special reasons and whose passport has been lost, stolen, damaged or has expired, there is a "green channel" by email with the embassy.

Steps
Step 1: Apply in the “中国领事” app
Chinese citizens living in Spain (except Catalonia) and Andorra apply in the “中国领事” app, after registering and verifying their account.

Step 2: Explain the parents’ residence history
Because of a possible nationality conflict, the Chinese parent fills in the “申办旅行证补充说明” with their first entry to Spain, their changes of residence permit and the permit they held when the child was born.

Step 3: Hand in documents and collect
In the app you choose to hand in at the embassy or by post, and to collect at the embassy or by post. If you pay at the embassy, it is by card, WeChat Pay or Alipay, no cash, from 12:00 to 12:30.

What if they decide the child does not have Chinese nationality?
With the reply in the app, the child can apply for a China visa at the visa application centre.

I lost my passport and must urgently return to China
There is a “green channel” for people with Spanish residence who must return urgently for special reasons (visiting a sick relative, a funeral, signing an important contract): write to [email protected] explaining your case and the embassy will reply or give you an appointment. What do I bring to collect it?
Copy of the applicant’s ID (NIE/DNI), copy of the birth certificate or family book, and the original ID and a copy of the parent who collects it.
