What it is
The large family certificate (título de familia numerosa) is an official document proving large-family status and category, valid throughout Spain; in the Community of Madrid it can be requested at any time, free of charge. Among others, families with three or more children can apply and, in some cases, families with two children (for example, if one has a 33 % disability). There are two categories, special and general, depending on the number of children or income. It is filed online with a recognised electronic signature system, or in person with the form at a registry office (by appointment). You must provide, among other things, the family book or equivalent documents from your country of origin, padrón registration for everyone who will appear on the certificate (issued within the previous three months) and, for non-EU nationals, the legal residence document. The maximum decision period is three months and silence means approval. The physical certificate has been replaced by a digital card in the Familias Numerosas app, and any change in the family must be reported.
