What it is
In the Valencian Community the health card is called the SIP card; it identifies the holder to the public health service and is valid throughout Spain. People registered with Social Security and covered for healthcare go to their nearest health centre with their identity document (DNI/NIE); it is recommended to bring a valid padrón certificate (six months) and the INSS document proving entitlement to healthcare. The centre registers them in the SIP and issues the card. Family beneficiaries first ask the INSS to be included. With a digital certificate or Cl@ve you can also apply online and collect the card at the health centre. Newborns are usually given a provisional 3-month card at the hospital.
