Recognition of dependency (Valencian Community)
Reconocimiento de la situación de dependencia (Comunitat Valenciana)
What it is
Anyone actually resident in the Valencian Community has the right to request recognition of dependency (needing others' help with basic daily activities because of age, illness or disability). You apply at the primary social services of the city council where you are on the padrón, preferably through its registry, with the initial application, a health report, a historical padrón certificate and the direct debit form (plus other documents if you do not authorise data checks). Social services notify the date of the assessment and prepare a social report on your environment. The decision on the degree must be issued within 3 months, and the Individual Care Programme (PIA) within a further 3; if there is no decision after 6 months, it is deemed granted.

Steps
Step 1: Apply at your town hall
Go to the official website: Initial recognition of dependencyIt is submitted to the primary social services of the town hall where you are registered, preferably at its official registry.

Step 2: Assessment and social report
Social services tell you the date and time of the assessment. A social worker also prepares the social report on your setting.

Step 3: Grade decision and PIA
The grade decision is due within 3 months of registration, and the PIA within another 3 months of the grade. If not resolved in 6 months, the application is deemed approved and the benefit is paid retroactively.

What if I disagree with the proposed PIA?
If your choice differs from the social worker’s view, you receive a draft PIA and have 15 days to submit objections.
