Registering a domestic worker with Social Security
Alta en empleo de hogar
What it is
Anyone who hires a person to work in their home (cleaning, care or keeping other people company) for a wage must register them with Social Security, whatever the number of hours; processing the registration and paying the contributions is always the employer's responsibility, and if the person works in several homes each employer makes its own registration. You need the details of the employer and the worker (DNI or NIE and Social Security number), the working hours and the wage, a bank account (IBAN) and, for non-EU workers, the work permit. Registration can be requested from 60 days before the start date up to that same day; if the person has already started working, the service allows it within the following 30 days, but it counts as late. The monthly contribution is paid partly by the employer and partly by the worker and depends on the wage.
Official wording
La responsabilidad de tramitar el alta y de ingresar las cuotas corresponderá siempre al empleador.Official sources
