Registrarse en Cl@ve

What it is

To identify yourself with Cl@ve in procedures that accept it, you must first register in this system. Without an electronic certificate, online registration can be done with an invitation letter sent by post to your tax address and its CSV code (valid for 60 days), or with video identification in the Cl@ve app, which according to the Agencia Tributaria is currently only available to Spanish citizens with a valid DNI; these routes give a basic level. You can also register with an electronic certificate or electronic DNI, or in person at a registration office (advanced level), attending in person with your DNI or NIE, a mobile phone and an email address; foreign citizens prove their identity with a passport or travel document.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Choose how to register

    With an NIE there are three routes: online with an invitation letter and CSV (basic level), in person at an office (advanced level) or with an electronic certificate (advanced level). Video registration with the Cl@ve app is, according to the Tax Agency, currently only for Spanish citizens with a valid DNI. Some bodies other than the Tax Agency may require the advanced level.

  2. Step 2: Request the invitation letter

    In "Registrarse en Cl@ve" enter your NIE and your card's support number, and request the letter. It is posted to your tax address, and you have 60 days to use it; after that the CSV expires.

  3. Step 3: Complete the registration

    Go back to "Registrarse en Cl@ve", tick "Ya dispongo de una carta invitación", enter the 16-character CSV, your mobile (with country code if foreign) and your email. At the end you get a PDF with the Cl@ve Permanente activation code.

  4. Step 4: Or register in person

    Book an appointment with the Tax Agency (91 333 5 333, Monday to Friday 9:00–19:00; in August until 15:00; or in "Asistencia y Cita" on the e-office), or find an office of another body on the Punto de Acceso General. You must go yourself: it cannot be done through a representative or power of attorney.

  5. Step 5: Use Cl@ve

    In a procedure, choose "Cl@ve Móvil": scan the QR code with the Cl@ve app, or enter your NIE and the check data and confirm with the app or a 6-digit PIN by SMS.

FAQ

Can my family use the same mobile?

No. Cl@ve allows only one mobile per user: if you register a mobile already linked to another DNI/NIE, Cl@ve access for that other DNI/NIE is automatically disabled.
